korean face care guide for pinays

Get that KDrama star glow!

Ever envied those Korean drama stars for their flawless skin? Apparently, their skin glows because of a complicated and meticulous 10-step skin care routine!

Worry not, we broke it down for you in this step-by-step guide.

Step 1: Start cleaning with an oil cleanser

Start your routine by cleaning your face. Oil cleanser is the most basic step. Just massage the product onto your face to remove dirt and makeup. Rinse with lukewarm water.

Step 2: Get rid of all traces of dirt with a foam cleanser

It’s not enough to just clean your face once. In this routine, you have to clean it twice to make sure all traces of dirt and makeup are removed. This can be done using a water-based cleanser. Dab the cleanser onto your damp face and massage it using a circular motion.

Step 3: Exfoliate dead skin cells

It is important to note that this step should only be done once to twice a week because too much exfoliating can also be harmful to your skin. Do it once a week if you have dry, normal, or sensitive skin. Exfoliate twice a week if you have oily skin.

For this step, use the exfoliator to slough off dead skin cells and make sure you focus on your T-zone and other areas prone to blackheads and whiteheads.

Step 4: Tone to balance your skin’s pH level

Feel refreshed by using a toner to soothe and balance your skin’s pH level. For this step, you have to apply the toner on a cotton pad. Then gently swipe it onto your face with an outward motion.

Step 5: Repair your skin with essence

This step helps the speed of the cell turnover rate which enables your skin to repair itself. Simply pat the essence onto your face using your fingers. Then let it sit to let your skin absorb the essence.

Step 6: Target skin problems with an ampoule, a booster, or a serum

Basically, these are concentrated essences designed to target very specific skin concerns—large pores, dark spots, wrinkles, acne, or whatever it is you’re mostly bothered about. Gently tap into your skin and allow it to work its magic.

Step 7: Put on a sheet mask

Did you know that a lot of Koreans practice putting on sheet masks every night before they go to sleep? That’s why this was included in the 10-step face care. Just put on the sheet mask for 15 to 20 minutes and your skin will instantly feel fresh and hydrated! If you really want to boost the results, it’s best to put your sheet mask for around 10 minutes in the freezer before use.

Step 8: Put on some eye cream

Take note that the skin around your eye is very thin, delicate, and sensitive. This is why it needs extra care. Your eye cream does this job for you. Using just your ring finger, dab a pea-sized amount of eye cream very gently around your eyes.

Step 9: Moisturize

That radiant glow of Korean stars can be attributed to moisturizers. You want to hydrate your skin and moisturize it so it will be restored to its natural elasticity. The result is a smoother face with less fine lines. Just massage the moisturizer and allow it to be soaked up by your skin.

Step 10: Going out? Apply sunscreen

Koreans look ageless because they are so careful with their skin, especially when it comes to protecting it against the sun. Always wear sunscreen even if you’ll only be out for a couple of minutes. It’s also a must to avoid premature aging and skin cancer.

So is it a guarantee that you’ll get that Korean drama star glow even after you follow all these steps? The honest answer is no. Even if you religiously follow these steps and use expensive products on your face, the most important thing is to keep your skin healthy. The best way to do this is by eating healthy and following a nutritious diet. Of course, don’t forget to exercise and get enough rest and sleep!
