Keeping Your Heart Health At Bay

//Keeping Your Heart Health At Bay

More than ever, now that we are all surrounded by a lot of food temptations that you seem to be difficult to avoid, it’s important to have a healthy and active lifestyle in order to keep your heart healthy.

Now, let’s deep dive into the food that we must be consuming in order to protect our heart health.

Fruits and vegetables

Consuming fruits and veggies have a lot to offer. They’re incredibly low in calories while being filled with fiber and a whole lot of essential vitamins and minerals, not to mention, antioxidants! Our body produces oxygen-free radicals as part of its everyday metabolism; these are molecules that are highly reactive and can negatively affect cells and tissues in the body.

Note to always keep their information in-check as free radicals have the possibility to damage your blood vessels’ lining and might cause bad cholesterol, which can get trapped in the lining of your arteries. In addition, antioxidants get to protect by means of keeping the production of free radicals to a minimum.

Choosing the right proteins

In order to satisfy your hunger, protein is what you need. However, in order to keep a healthy heart, you have to opt for protein sources that are low in fat. As we know, saturated fats have the power of raising our cholesterol levels in our blood, that is why you can look into choosing protein which has the lowest fat content.

Remember, meats contain more saturated fat and cholesterol compared to poultry, while poultry has more fat than seafood. Look for low-fat or fat-free dairy products. Don’t forget to eat your plant proteins such as beans, lentils, and soy proteins – these have zero cholesterol and are low in saturated fat. Consume fish that have omega-3 fats DHA and EPA.

It’s all about soluble fiber

We have two types of fiber which are soluble and insoluble. On their own, they are both important, but when it comes to heart health, don’t forget to consume your soluble fiber. These are important because they trap water and cholesterol in our digestive tract. With this, it promotes fullness and can help in controlling your weight.

Choosing the right and healthy fats

Food that contains heart-healthy fats are found in fish, tree nuts, avocados, and olive oil since they contain a small amount of saturated fat. They are also great sources of polyunsatruated fats that can help in keeping your blood cholesterol level at a healthy range.

Ultimately, we have to pay attention to what we eat and our lifestyle. Incorporate exercise with your healthy diet and your heart will be thanking you!
